PENSACOLA, Fla. (WALA) - The Girl Scouts of the Florida Panhandle will host the "sweetest" 5K and One Mile Run/Walk in town on Saturday, February 23, 2013.
The "Run for the Cookies" will take place at Hitzman Optimist Park, 3221 Langley Avenue, Pensacola, Fla. 32504 starting at 8 a.m.
"We are proud to partner with the city of Pensacola to provide this event to the community," stated Raslean M. Allen, Girl Scout Council of the Florida Panhandle, Inc. chief executive officer. "Girl Scouting provides programs and opportunities to build girls of courage, confidence and character, who make the world a better place."
Participants can register onsite, the day of the race, beginning at 7 a.m. at Hitzman Optimist Park. The race flier is also available on the Girl Scouts' website at www.gscfp.org . Day-of-race 5K entry fee is $18 and the One Mile fee is $10.
The 5K and One mile Run/Walk provide something for all ages and fitness levels. Families, individuals, troops and groups are invited to participate.
Awards are provided in several age categories.
Special recognition is given to the Girl Scout Troop with the most entrants. The college fraternity or sorority with the most finishers receives a free weekend at Camp, and the school team with the most finishers in the One Mile Run/Walk will receive a pizza party.
