PENSACOLA, Fla. (WALA) - A Pensacola marathon runner gave a special gift to a friend this past weekend. Ashley Garrett ran the Denver Rock and Roll Marathon for Randy Schultz.
Schultz lives in Denver and was diagnosed with Parkinson's about a year ago. The 37-year-old was there as Ashley crossed the finish line.
Ashley told FOX10 while the race was tough, it was worth it.
"It was pretty tough, the altitude really got to me and I twisted my knee without about ten miles left to go, but it was worth it. I ended up finishing it, and it was worth it seeing her face in the end of it. We were all crying, and, just to see her face, I broke down afterwards and we hugged for a good, probably for about a minute. It was an emotional time for us."
So far, the Pensacola native has collected more than $2,000. You can help by clicking here and visiting her donation page.
