People awoke early Tuesday morning to roads under water, whipping winds, and 10-foot waves. That is what Tropical Storm Ida brought to Pensacola Beach.

"It was a mellow year all year, and all of a sudden we get this."

Fort Pickens Road was covered in water by early Monday. Two beach parking lots were also underwater. It may look like a mess, but safety officials say it won't take long to clean it up.

"Our park is going to take a couple days. We've got some front end loaders coming in, we've got some sweepers. We'll start on the west end and then do the east end," said Buck Lee with Santa Rosa Island Authority.

No structural damage was reported, and most of the other beach areas weren't even touched.

"On a scale of one to ten, it was a 0.6."

Usually sand would be covering certain areas of the beach, but a few simple changes like putting grass over the sand, and putting up sand barriers, kept it from blowing away.

"You can see some spots are barely covered, so sand fencing is working, the grass is helping keep sand out of parking lot. We've lost some beach. I don't know how much yet til engineers come in. It is surprising to have a tropical storm in November."

Crews are working to have the beach cleaned in time for Wednesday's Veteran's Day parade.
