Deputy: Pizza delivery man beaten with pipe

PENSACOLA, Fla. (WALA) - Escambia County deputies said 44-year-old Robert Kuhn was just doing his job making a pizza delivery at Stoddert Place Apartments.

Kuhn said he'd been to the complex many times.

The Domino's driver was walking up to deliver an order Wednesday night, when he said someone hit him in the face with a pipe.

Kuhn told deputies he came from a corner when he was blind-sided by his alleged attacker. The hit knocked Kuhn out, and it wasn't until he came to that he was able to call for help.

Kuhn noticed nothing was taken from him, not the money or the pizza. That makes it difficult for deputies to find the attacker's motive.

"We still don't know the motive," said sheriff's office spokesman Sergeant Mike Ward. "It could have possibly been a robbery, and maybe the guy got scared off before he could grab what he wanted. We just don't know at this point."

Sandy Zavitz was delivering pizza at Stoddert Place while we were on-scene. She was shaken to hear about Kuhn.

"I think that's sad; that's really pathetic," Zavitz said. "And it's unnerving a little bit, too. That's why I don't work nights anymore."

Zavitz said she hasn't been robbed, but knows co-workers who have been. She said steps are taken to keep the job as safe as possible.

"We are cautious, and we don't carry much money because of that fact. So, if people think we're an easy target, we're not," Zavitz said. "You're not going to benefit much from robbing us or injuring us unless they want to go to jail."

That's exactly where deputies said they want to put whoever is responsible for this crime, but they need your help.

"I'm sure that there's somebody out there that has heard something or knows something. And if they do, please call the sheriff's office. You can remain anonymous. Or call Crime Stoppers and give us the information. And certainly, we'll follow up on it to the best of my ability," Sergeant Ward said.

Ward said Kuhn's injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
