Escambia Co., Fla. (WALA) - The Escambia County Commission will decide on the fate of a proposed 4-cent gas tax during a special meeting on Monday, November 19. Before commissioners vote, residents will have a chance to chime in on the proposal.
A public hearing is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. at the Escambia County Governmental Complex Board Chambers at 221 Palafox Place.
The money generated from the 4-cent hike would finance the county's public transit system, which is currently supported by property taxes.
If passed, the hike would not go into effect until 2014 at the earliest.
