Vet organizes Veterans Day parade

PENSACOLA, Fla. (WALA) - Soon, the streets of downtown Pensacola will be full of folks turning out to recognize the men and women that serve and those that have sacrificed everything for our country.

That's because a veteran has organized a Veteran's Day Parade on Nov. 12 at 9 a.m.

Ret. Staff Sergeant Nathaniel Bass spent eight years in the Army and served two tours in Vietnam.

Bass and his VFW Post spent months organized a parade in honor of Veteran’s day and the service members that allow us to celebrate the holiday.

“We want to celebrate them and let them know, we’re thinking about them and we support them and we’re there for them,” said Ret. Staff Sergeant Bass.

Officials say the parade will start at the corner of Main and Spring Streets and then proceed down Bayfront Parkway and up 9th Avenue South to end at Wall South, the Veterans Memorial.

Bass says around 101 vehicles will make up the parade. He says honoring Veterans Day reminds him of those he served with in the Army.

“We just don’t forget about each other. We support each other and take care of each other. It’s an international brotherhood to be a veteran. It’s a warm feeling in your heart. It gives you chillbumps all over your body to be part of this and to be celebrated as a veteran,” Bass said.

The parade will be hosted by retired US Army Major Deloris Quattlebaum who will be the Grand Marshal for the event.

The Thunderbird Honor Guard and Native American veterans will also be in attendance.
