EUTAW, Ala. (AP) - Several protesters have been arrested after they refused to leave the Greenetrack casino in west Alabama as state police entered to seize electronic bingo machines.
Jail personnel in Greene County confirmed that several were brought in Thursday morning. Sheriff George Cook was not immediately available for comment.
One of the protesters, state Sen. Bobby Singleton of Greensboro, told WBRC television that he and others were arrested on a charge of obstruction of justice. He said they were orderly.
Singleton and others arrested oppose Gov. Bob Riley's gambling task force, which obtained Alabama Supreme Court orders clearing the way for more than 800 bingo machines to be seized. The governor says court ruling have found the machines are illegal slot machines.
