PACE, Fla. (WALA) - The Florida Highway Patrol says a multi-car accident shut down US 90 in Pace and left one person dead Sunday afternoon.

Authorities said the accident happened at the intersection of US Highway 90 and County Road 197A around 10 a.m. They said a Ford F-250 pickup truck ran a red light, striking the front end of a 2008 Ford Explorer that was making a left turn.

Officials said the Explorer was pushed off the road and the F-250 kept going, hitting two more vehicles parked in the intersection.

Authorities said Angela Long, 49, who was driving the Explorer, was killed in the accident.

Dreama Perkins said she was on her way to Pensacola when she drove by just moments later.

"The lady that was killed was in a white car and she was still in the car. Her car was all smashed up, especially on the driver side," said Perkins.

Authorities shut down the highway connecting Escambia and Santa Rosa County and deputies helped redirect traffic. It took nearly three hours to reopen the road.

Authorities say the other two vehicles involved were a 1999 Honda Accord and 2007 Ford F-150. Everyone involved was wearing a seatbelt; authorities said tests for whether alcohol was involved are pending.

Perkins said she feels terrible for the people involved, but she feels blessed that she wasn't in the accident.

"When you see something like that you wonder if it's someone you know. You wonder, Is it my daughter? It's terrible," Perkins said.

The Florida Highway Patrol is still investigating and charges are pending.
