Emmy award-winning star helps reopen charity store

MILTON, Fla. (WALA) - An Emmy award-winning TV personality helped Habitat for Humanity reopen their store in Milton.

Steve Thomas, along with a crowd of Habitat supporters, gathered around as the ribbon was cut and the doors were opened to the Milton Vintage Homestore on Saturday morning.

The store has been closed for the last year, so it could also undergo renovations. The new store will not only sell building supplies, but also vintage and eclectic items.

Proceeds from the store go toward building affordable housing in communities around Santa Rosa and Escambia counties.

"We think globally but it also starts in each community,” said Thomas, the former host of This Old House. “If we can build homes, affordable housing in this community then it can spread to the next, and so on until everyone lives in a good home."

The habitat for humanity restore accepts donations to be sold in the store and the group also lists donation sites on their website. (external link)

You can also call 850-981-0009 to find donation areas.
