MILTON, Fla. (WALA) - Santa Rosa County sheriff's deputies said 19-year-old Pierre McIntosh attempted to rob people in a car Friday, and then shot at them as they drove away. A 3-year-old was inside the car.
Tina Mallernee lives on Julia Drive in Milton next to the scene of the shooting.
"I heard a 'Pop! Pop! Pop!' And I'm kind of familiar with that sound, so I said, 'Baby, someone's shooting outside. Shut the door.' You know, we have kids inside," said Mallernee.
The victims said they met up with someone named John-John to give him a ride, and with him was McIntosh.
"They stated that all of a sudden he pulled out a handgun, pointed it at them and demanded their money," said Sgt. Scott Haines with the Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Office.
Haines stated that sometime after McIntosh pulled the gun, the victims forced him out of their car and sped away, trying to escape down the road. That's when McIntosh started shooting.
One of the shots struck the car's tire.
The victims saw McIntosh riding around Milton Monday and called deputies who showed up and arrested him.
"He was in the car at the same time as this kid was in the car. So anyone that is going to shoot at a moving vehicle knowing there's a small child in there and multiple people ... That's just reckless," Haines said.
Mallernee is shocked someone would shoot into a car with a child inside.
"I fear for my child every time I come out the front door to take out the trash. I don't want it to happen. I don't like knowing that happened with a child in the car. It's bad it happened to begin with, but knowing they did that with a child in the car, it makes it just that more horrible," said Mallernee.
Fortunately, the child was not hurt in the incident.
McIntosh was also wanted by U.S. Marshalls for an outstanding warrant in Kentucky. He is being charged in Florida with three counts of aggravated assault, discharging a firearm in public, three counts of robbery with a firearm and felony cruelty towards a child.
He is being held in the Santa Rosa County Jail without bond.
