PACE, Fla. (WALA) - A candlelight vigil was Wednesday, Dec. 19 in Pace, FL in memory of those lives lost in the tragic shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut.

The vigil began at 6:30 p.m. with comments from the Pastor of Community of Christ Church in Milton. Inspirational music and singing followed.

The ceremony was hosted by the Pace Athletic Recreation Association (PARA) at the football complex on Woodbine road.

Many who attended the ceremony said they see themselves in the community of Newtown.

“Were a small town, too; and we have a lot in common,” said parent and teacher Felecia Johnson. “Everybody knows everybody.”

“I think about those parents and how they are not with their children tonight,” said parent Karen Abott. “I want everyone everywhere to stand up for these families.”

Organizers with PARA said the ceremony was a small gesture but a strong show of support.

The vigil also served as a fundraiser to benefit the families of those affected by this tragic shooting.
