MOBILE, Ala. - It's the largest baby crib recall in history. More than two million drop-side cribs that were manufactured between January 1993 and October of 2009 have been recalled by Storkcraft Manufacturing.

After four infants suffocated in Storkcraft drop-side cribs, the Consumer Product Safety Commission is warning parents to stop using the cribs until they get a repair kit from the company.

According to the Consumer Product and Safety Commission, Storkcraft cribs could be purchased at retail giants including Sears, Wal-Mart, and Target.

Anne Seigel, who owns a baby store in Mobile, says she has never carried the brand.

"What this recall is about is how parents are putting these cribs together incorrectly, and that the plastic parts are breaking. And for 29 years we've refused to carry cribs that have plastic parts for that reason, because we feel that they could accidentally be put together wrong, or they could break and a child could get lodged between the side of the crib and the mattress," said Seigel.

If the drop-side of the crib is installed upside-down and a plastic part breaks, a baby could slip down, get trapped between the side rail and the mattress, and suffocate.

Seigel says not all drop-side cribs are harmful, but she's seeing that more and more cribs are being made with permanent sides.

"At this point, drop-side cribs are still available, they are still for sale, there has not been any recall on drop-side cribs. However I can see in the future, I don't know how soon, the drop-side cribs probably will be phased out so that we will have four permanent sides," said Seigel.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission says it's is considering new rules for making cribs safer, and may adopt safety standards that would eliminate the manufacture of drop-side cribs.

But for now, Storkcraft drop-side cribs are the only cribs being recalled. If you would like to order a repair kit for your Storkcraft crib, you can contact the company at 877-274-0277.

This is the company's second recall this year. In January, Storkcraft recalled more than 500,000 cribs because of mattress support brackets that were failing, and creating a risk of entrapment and suffocation.
