DAPHNE, Ala. - A local WWII veteran is speaking out about the Fort Hood shootings.
The Fort Hood story continues to develop and Navy Veteran Horace Luckey has been watching the headlines scroll across his living room screen. He wonders what the victim's families are going through.
"That's the tragedy part of it, but hey it's the kind of thing that happens no matter what," said Luckey.
On Thursday, authorities say the accused gun man open fire killing more than a dozen people. U.S. leaders say the Fort Hood shooting is one that has truly shaken our country.
"This is kick in the gut. Not only the Fort Hood community but also for our entire army," said General George Casey, Army Chief of Staff.
"Things like this seem so useless because he didn't accomplish anything," said Luckey.
Luckey says he knows his days are short and that's why he hopes images like the ones in Fort Hood will some day come to an end.
"I have nine children and 35 grandchildren. I hope to leave a better world than what they are having today. Unfortunately, I Don't see it being a better world. But the only way it can be a better is if we make it that way," he said.
