DAPHNE, Ala. - While bands and marching bands paraded across the area, Veteran's Day memorial programs were also held.
A tribute fitting for America's veterans was held in Daphne for their service, honor, and commitment.
Army veteran Neal Parker retired in 1981.
"Today, I am thinking about them, the guys I served with," said Parker.
But as he remembers his friends from the past, he can't forget about soldiers fighting in today's conflict.
"There are some really radicals folks out there, whose primary mission is to wipe us out," said Parker.
Veterans say they paid tribute for several reasons. One of those reasons is to ensure the safety of future generations.
Eleven-year-old Kyser Nelms is a member of that generation.
"Why are you here today?"
"To honor the veterans."
"Why is that so important to you?"
"Because my family is in the army."
Parker says kids like Kyser are a main reason our country must be defended.
"We would hope that they don't have to experience what we did," said Parker.
And as we pause to remember America's heroes, their service is not forgotten.
