BALDWIN COUNTY, Ala. - Memorial Day weekend crowds weren't the best on Friday, thanks to the weather. But, lifeguards are expecting lots of people and also lots of rain.
Memorial Day beach crowds should get wet this year, just not in the gulf.
Lifeguards say double red flags will be flying all weekend and the key for safety will be keeping everyone out of the water.
"Walking on the edge is okay, but if you actually enter the water it's against the law when double red flags are flying," said Lifeguard Scott Smothers.
Smothers is expecting a windy and rainy weekend. He said if beachgoers don't follow the rules it could be dangerous.
"The unfortunate outcome could be death or serious injury," Smothers said.
On Friday a few folks ignored the red flags, but most didn't want to chance it. "It's really bad, like easy drowning," said one beachgoer. "So, it would be very dangerous for anyone to get in right now."
But despite the weather and the red flags, many are still expecting a big beach crowd.
"I think it will be a packed beach, I really do," said Smothers. Lifeguards say rules will be strictly enforced Memorial Day Weekend.
Police and security will be on hand as well.
