FOLEY, Ala. - Watching and wondering is what Cheryl Jones was doing Wednesday morning as emergency crews rushed passed her Foley apartment.

"There were many vehicles, police cars, ambulances, the fire truck," said Jones. "I thought there had been another bad accident."

But that wasn't the case.

Around 6:00 Wednesday morning, Foley Police Officers were serving a search warrant at a home on East Ashford Place, looking for 51-year-old Michael Woods.

Undercover narcotics officers say he had marijuana inside his parents home where he was living. Officers arrested Woods.

But, police say his father, 77-year-old Robert Woods, came out of the bedroom with a gun that had a red laser.

Officers say they did everything possible to get the elder Woods to put the gun down, but he didn't. That's when the father shot Officer Randy Stallworth in the leg.

In return, officers shot and killed Robert Woods.

Neighbors say the elderly man probably thought burglars were at his doorstep.

"The briefing I had received, I don't see how he didn't know it was police because of their markings and because they were yelling at him," said Chief David Wilson.

Meanwhile the younger Woods is in jail.

Chief David Wilson said the son is the reason for this fatal incident.

"His daddy got killed today because he sold drugs out of their house." The four officers who were involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave.

The wounded officer is expected to be fine.
