SATSUMA, Ala. - UPDATE: Browning was denied bond in court Wednesday morning for the murder of his mother. According to the district clerk’s office, he was also denied bond on the fraudulent use of credit card and possession of cocaine charges. His next court date will be an arraignment set for May 18th.

A shocking murder in Mobile County. Police say a mother was killed, by her own son. It happened on Lemans Drive West in Satsuma.

Satsuma Police were called to the home after a woman called saying her mother was missing, along with her car and some belongings. Police went to the home and made a terrible discovery.

"They were pulling a body out of the house, had an ambulance in the front yard, tape around the house, very shocking," said Blake Kyser.

That was the scene Kyser witnessed as he was driving to his home which is just down the road in the quiet Satsuma neighborhood.

"You'll find an occasional car, the worst thing that may happen is your dog gets out in the road, your kid walks to the end of the driveway, that's it," said Kyser.

Kyser said everyone is in shock, but said it's a quick reminder of what can happen. Police found a weapon as well signs of a struggle when they discovered the body of Lawanda Kay Browning in the rear bedroom of her home.

They started looking for Browning's car and Browning's son who also lives at the home. Around 2:30pm, the car was spotted in Prichard. Police said Browning's son Joshua Browning and Jermaine Robinson of Prichard were inside. Police said crack cocaine was also found in the car. Police said drugs have been apart of Joshua Browning's life.

"We do have a pending case in circuit court at this time, a theft of property charge where he stole some of his mom's belongings and pawned them to get drugs," said Satsuma Police Chief David Benefield.

Police said they suspect drugs played a part in Lawanda Browning's death.

"It's especially hard on the family, they were all together for Mother's Day and had been at a family home to enjoy their time together and then this occurs, it's devastating," said Benefield.

Joshua Browning is charged with murder in connection with the death of his mother. Jermaine Robinson is charged with receiving stolen property.
