MERIDIAN, Miss. (AP) — Five people, including two inmates, have been arrested on charges related to attempting to sneak contraband in to the Lauderdale County jail.

Chief Deputy Ward Calhoun says the five were trying to bring marijuana, tobacco or other items into the jail.

Calhoun says guards were checking the perimeter of the jail on Feb. 14 found a cell window had been pried open and strings lowered over a fence.

Calhoun says those outside were tying items to the strong to hoisted back into the jail.

Calhoun says inmates Darrell Tyler Long and Travis Sullivan and two other adults, Janie Long and Thomas Taylor, were each charged with conspiracy to introduce contraband into a correctional facility.

A 14-year-old was turned over to the youth court.
