METCALFE, Miss. (AP) — Metcalfe Police Chief Emmitt Jenkins has been suspended with pay after a lawsuit was filed against the town and allegations of work quality and insubordination, according to the mayor.
Mayor Corey Holmes tells the Delta Democrat Times (http://bit.ly/15JWP2k ) that the Washington County Sheriff's Department will answer emergency calls.
Holmes says town attorney Bennie Richard will conduct an investigation into the lawsuit and complaints. He says the board of aldermen will make a decision after the investigation is completed on whether to retain Jenkins.
Holmes offered no details on the lawsuit or the complaints.
Jenkins was hired as police chief in 2009. He previously worked with the Washington County Sheriff's Department and the Saginaw, Mich., Police Department.
The newspaper says Jenkins declined to comment.
