CHARLESTON, Miss. (AP) — A Tallahatchie County woman has pleaded guilty to one count of exploitation of a vulnerable adult.

Attorney General Jim Hood says in a news release that 37-year-old Heather Cox was sentenced Monday to five years with four years suspended Circuit Judge Jimmy McClure. She also will be placed on four years post release supervision once released.

Hood says Cox convinced a Charleston woman that she needed repairs to her home and convinced the victim to hire Cox to make the repairs, which were unnecessary.

Hood says Cox was told by local law enforcement to leave the victim, who suffered from a deteriorating mental state, alone. A short time later, Hood says Cox went to the bank with the victim to try and cash another check.
