Trial reset for ex-Southaven contractor

ABERDEEN, Miss. (AP) — Former Southaven city contractor James Malcolm Harris Jr., who has business ties to Mayor Greg Davis and was recently indicted on bank fraud charges, has had his federal trial reset for Sept. 9.

Harris' attorney, David Hill, asked the court to delay a March 4 trial, saying they needed more time to prepare the case.

The Commercial Appeal reports (http://bit.ly/V8CyAvT ) the motion was granted, and now Harris' jury trial has been set for September in federal court in Aberdeen, Miss., before U.S. Dist. Judge Sharion Aycock.

Harris, of Hernando, was indicted on Jan. 30 on two counts of loan and credit application fraud and one count of conspiracy to defraud the United States.

Harris pleaded innocent to the charges. He remains free on a $5,000 bond.
