BAY ST. LOUIS, Miss. (AP) - The Mississippi Department of Transportation will present an $800,000 check to Hancock County and Bay St. Louis on Friday, which will help pay for several projects.
The Sun Herald reports the money represents 80 percent of the project cost and local governments will put up 20 percent.
The grant application was compiled by the Hancock Chamber of Commerce's Greenways and Byways Committee.
The money will be used to upgrade the beach pedestrian and biking trail and extend it west to Buccaneer State Park.
It will also be used to outfit the chamber building to be the eastern headquarters for Beach Boulevard's Scenic Byways.
Chamber staff will run the Byways welcome center.
