LUCEDALE, Miss. (WALA) - A bond hearing was held Monday for the man accused of causing a deadly accident near Lucedale over the weekend.
Monday was the first time Gail Tatum had seen the site on Mississippi Highway 63 where three people were killed Saturday afternoon.
Investigators said Tatum's son, Ravielle Bolton, was driving under the influence when his car hit the back of a Ford SUV.
"He's emotionally upset. He did some tours in Iraq and that just set him back, and this is another add on to his problems," Tatum said.
Tatum and her daughter were at the bond hearing Monday for Bolton. It was set at $250,000.
"Our hearts go out to the Rogers and the Paterson family, and we're praying for them just as we are praying for our family."
Simon Patterson, 48, was driving the SUV. Mississippi State Troopers said Patterson was thrown from the vehicle along with two passengers.
Lisa Patterson said family members called her shortly after the deadly accident.
"The kids just don't have father. That's the hardest thing of all," Patterson said.
The other two victims also lived in the State Line community.
"I believe they were headed to pick up Andre's oldest son down at another little town down from Leakesville," Hezekiah Jackson said.
Jackson who was the stepfather of two of the victims said his family is making funeral arraignments for their two loved ones.
Meanwhile, Bolton's future is now in the hands of the courts.
Troopers said Andre Rogers died on the scene. Jermaine Rogers and the driver Simon Patterson died later at the hospital.
A 16-year-old who was also in the car was not hurt. Troopers said he was the only person wearing a seatbelt.
