GULPORT, Miss. (AP) -
The Gulfport Municipal Court is beginning an amnesty program in an effort to collect money people owe for traffic violations and other citations.
Gulfport officials say, the city had $19 million in outstanding fines as of January 23, 2013.
The program will run through March 28, and people will be allowed to resolve traffic and some misdemeanor cases by paying the fines and court costs in full but without penalties.
For these fines, past-due penalties will be waived; arrest warrants will be set aside, and driver's license suspensions will be released.
Until March 28, the court will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
