JACKSON, Miss. (WALA) - The Mississippi Department of Corrections is looking to hire more than 100 correctional officers this year.

The department said it needs new people because of turnovers, resignations and retirement. The new officers will help to deal with the increasing number of inmates.

Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED and take proficiency tests in math, report-writing and physical ability. Starting pay is about $1,800 per month.
