The smoke detectors were provided by the Mississippi State Fire Marshal’s Office, who obtained them through a special grant to furnish this life-saving equipment to those in need.

"With Mississippi leading the nation in fire-related deaths, the Ocean Springs Fire Department will be preserving the lives and property of citizens by providing and installing this equipment," said Fire Chief Jeffrey Ponson.

To qualify, one must live in the City of Ocean Springs, and fit into one of the following categories:

  • Be a senior citizen
  • Live in a low-income household
  • Have children under the age of 14 living in household
  • Be hearing-impaired

Residents who qualify must go in person to the Ocean Springs Fire Department, located at 3810 Bienville Boulevard between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., Monday - Friday. Quantities are limited, so residents are encouraged to go as soon as possible.
