MOSS POINT, Miss. (WALA) - A Mississippi teen is dead after drowning over the weekend. It happened at Presley's Lake in Jackson County, Mississippi.
Jackson County Sheriff Mike Byrd said 17-year-old Nick Foster drowned at Presley's lake on Sunday.
The sheriff said it happened around 5 p.m.
Sheriff Byrd said the teen was swimming with a friend when he hollered for help.
People at the lake said they thought the teen was playing around.
Benjamin Ring saw the teen struggling in the water and realized it was no joke.
Ring said he rushed to offer his help along with his girlfriend, Amanda, and his friend James.
“She (Amanda) held the raft. And me and James went under looking for him in about 14 foot of water. We took turns going under the water, walking down river. We found him in about 10 minutes and brought him back to shore as quickly as we could," said Ring. "He was screaming for help. But people were just watching, not helping."
Sheriff Byrd said the teen was flown to USA Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
The owners of Presley's Outing said it is a tragic event that has not happened here in quite a while.
FOX10 News has learned Nick Foster was a former student at Pascagoula High School.
