BILOXI, Miss. (AP) - A wooden boat show taking place this weekend is a tribute to the Mississippi Gulf Coast's maritime heritage.

Forty-seven wooden vessels have docked at the Schooner Pier in East Biloxi for the 19th Annual Billy Creel Memorial Gulf Coast Wooden Boat Show.

WLOX TV reports that the boats were the workhorses of their day, including wooden schooners that were used to harvest seafood and haul lumber. They were built by hand and many have been restored and kept in pristine condition.

The event was set to open Saturday and continues Sunday.
