BAYOU LA BATRE, Ala. (WALA) - At least one shrimper was taken into custody Wednesday morning after a group of shrimp boats formed a blockade at the mouth of Mobile Bay.
The shrimpers and commercial fishermen say they were protesting BP's hiring practices. Many believe BP is hiring recreational boats and out of state boats instead of the commercial fishermen to help clean up from the massive oil leak in the Gulf of Mexico.
The shrimpers and fishermen say they have tried to get BP to listen to their concerns, but they couldn't make their voices heard so they staged the protest.
Marine Police were called to the scene.
BP says it will speak with the shrimpers about their concerns.
