MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - In recent weeks we've seen a preacher, teacher and now police officer accused of sexual misconduct, two of them with a minor.
Pat Guyton with the Child Advocacy Center said it's not surprising that child sexual predators place themselves in roles surrounding children.
Michael Floyd has a four-year-old little boy. The two spent Monday at the park. Floyd said he's talked to his child about stranger danger, but now it seems you have to warn him about everyone.
"These are people you trust with your child and you shouldn't have to be at home worrying about them," said Floyd.
The most recent case involves Mobile Police Officer Marshall Freeman.
Police remain tight lipped about that investigation, only saying the 20-year veteran is accused of having an inappropriate sexual contact with a 16-year-old girl.
Chief Tyrone Williams said it happened more than once.
"He has not been charged at this point, however, the officer did admit to having contact with the juvenile and has resigned as of March 11," said Chief Williams.
Freeman was assigned to the community services division since 2002 and had close contact with kids.
Guyton said the threat doesn't always start face-to-face.
"Yes, you have to be vigilant now with the internet web pages and you have to find out why is this person talking to my child," said Guyton.
Officials said when it comes to your child, trust your instincts, you can never be too careful. Guyton said parents are the first line of defense against sexual predators.
Guyton said parents should routinely check out the list of sexual predators made available by the Alabama Department of Public Safety.
