MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - There's only one donation box on the counter at B&B Pet Stop in Mobile. That's because a few weeks ago, someone walked off with the other one.
Store employees say say a woman came into the store on January 31 and asked to use the phone. She used her elbow to push the donation box off it's velcro base. When the cashier turned her back for just a moment, a man, who was with the woman, tucked the box under his jacket.
The cashier who was working that day said she thought it was odd that the woman moved the phone from the side of the register to the front, but she didn't think much about it at the time.
It was the second incident captured on surveillance cameras in the last month. The other happened on January 16. That's when a woman came in to make a small purchase, and ended up stealing $150.
Employee Michael Crabtree said the woman confused the inexperienced cashier by repeatedly asking for change for several large bills.
"If it's in the heat of the day and we're really busy, it can happen pretty quick if you're not sharp," Crabtree said.
The woman spent a total of $2.28. She was with a man believed to be in his 20s.
If you recognize any of the people in the surveillance video, call Mobile Police.
