STOCKTON, Ala. - Monday night's weather was a good reason to stay indoors. Some people must brave the elements to make sure you are safe, and Stockton volunteer firefighter Tim Barlow is one of those people.
"When I got to the vehicle, the only way I could get to it was drive up to it. I got the people out and they were walking across the hood. You can see the dents," Barlow said.
He has been a Volunteer Firefighter in Stockton for more than two years. He knew once the calls started coming in, the night was definitely not going to be quiet.
He said a call came across the scanner for help, three people were trapped on a submerged car.
"The car drove into a closed bridge that the dam had busted and the water was running through the car. The car was submerged, all you could see was the hood," said Barlow.
That's when Barlow pulled his truck into the water and pulled the three men to safety. Barlow said if he had thought about what he was doing for just a second longer the outcome would have been different, he's glad that thought didn't happen.
"They said they thought they could make it. The only thing they
could do was hug me. All they said was, 'I'm alive'," he said.
Barlow is hoping for a much quieter night Tuesday. He said a
least for a while though, the sound of raindrops will take him back
to the night where they seemed to never stop.
