While three teens are now charged with murder in the Summer Moody case, what about the convicted felon who fired the shot that killed Moody?

Baldwin County District Attorney Hallie Dixon addressed that during a news conference Wednesday. She said, "As far as a firearms law under state law, our prohibition, and legal prohibition for a felon involves hand guns. These were long guns. They're not prohibited under state law from having long guns."
However, there is a federal law that makes it a crime for a felon to possess any type of firearm or even ammunition. It reads:
It shall be unlawful for any person-
(1) who has been convicted in any court of, a crime punishable by imprisonment for a term exceeding one year; -- to ship or transport in interstate or foreign commerce, or possess in or affecting commerce, any firearm or ammunition; or to receive any firearm or ammunition which has been shipped or transported in interstate or foreign commerce. ---18 USC sec. 922(g)(1)
