Pastor Alois Bell was of a party of 10 eating at an Applebee’s in St. Louis.

The pastor did not appreciate the automatic 18 percent gratuity charged to the large group’s tab, so she scrawled on the receipt, “I give God 10%. Why do you get 18?” And signed it “Pastor.”

That was too much for the waitress, who posted it on the website Redditt.

She lost her job for violating the restaurant’s policy of publicly sharing a guest’s information.

The story has renewed the debate of whether gratuity should automatically be included.
