IRS offers free tax preparation

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - The clock is ticking if you still need to file your taxes.

The deadline to file your federal and Alabama  tax returns is April 17.

If you need some help, listen up.

The Internal Revenue Service is offering free tax preparations through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program.

According to the program's website, IRS-certified volunteers in the VITA program provide free income tax preparation assistance to low-Income, elderly, disabled and limited English speaking people.

To make an appointment at the VITA center in Mobile, call 251-433-4456.

If you need to find a VITA center in another area, visit the IRS website and you can search for one in your area or call 800-906-9887.

Weekday and weekend appointments are available.
