MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - A Mobile couple is working with local restaurants to provide safe places for children to have fun with their parents.
Latanzia Stephens joined with Mcgruff the Crime Dog and a representative of the Mobile Police department Saturday afternoon announcing the establishment of the program. Stephens says she's part of a ministry called Holy Haven, a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting victims of domestic violence.
She said parents can bring their children to the Safe Haven Restaurants and join them in structured activities.
"A safe haven is a place where you can actually come and enjoy and have fun, and have entertainment, you can mix, mingle,” Stephens said.
So far, the Safe Havens are established at the China Wok Restaurant on Airport Blvd. on Saturdays and at the Café Royal Restaurant on Dauphin Street on Thursday evenings.
Stephens said the event is about growing a supportive network.
“You can bring your business cards out to us, we network with each other, and we give each other opportunities to be in a safe place and have a good time altogether," she said.
