MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - State Health Officials said that areas previously closed to the harvesting of oysters have been reopened since being cleared for bacteriological safety.
Monday, State Health Officer Dr. Donald E. Williamson announced the reopening of portions of
Areas I, II and III of Mobile Bay were temporarily closed to the harvesting of oysters in February 2013.
This includes Portersville Bay, Grand Bay and Heron Bay, officials said. Catchers are reminded to check with the division for information regarding areas open for harvest.
The Alabama Department of Public Health said they will continue to monitor bay waters and shellfish to ensure bacteriological safety.
