MOBILE, Ala. - Austal’s latest project along the Mobile River officially opened Monday.
Called the Module Manufacturing Facility, the $81 million facility will be able to construct 6 of the Navy’s Littoral Combat Ships (LCS) or similar vessels per year. The expansion will ultimately accommodate up to 1,200 employees.
Austal USA President and Chief Operating Officer, Joe Rella
said, “This facility is a testament to Austal’s
commitment to the LCS and JHSV [Joint High Speed Vessel] programs.
It is an enabler for Austal to continue to lead the industry in
producing some of the most capable and best-valued vessels for the
US Navy. We intend to provide long term employment opportunities
for our workforce....”
