BAY MINETTE, Ala. - The only thing preventing a planned motor company plant from breaking ground in Baldwin County is money. Hybrid Kinetic Motors announced it plans to build a $1.5 billion manufacturing facility in Bay Minette.

Folks like Andre White welcome the plant. That's because White is feeling the recession more than most. He has two kids, and his wife's income is the only stable cash flow right now.

"It's not me, man. I am going to be alright. The point is, I want my family, my kids to eat. It's hard, man," said White.

Having a huge new business come to town could help White, and thousands of other Gulf Coast residents, who are experiencing tough times.

HK Motors made a big splash Thursday during its announcement in Montgomery. Now, the company needs big cash.

Here's a look at what's next with HK Motors:

  • Investors have to put up the $1.5 billion before the state offers any incentives
  • HK Motors representatives say they hope to raise the money within the next six months
  • At that point, state leaders will negotiate an incentive package before any money exchanges hands with the company

The company admits just getting the money will be a tall order. White wants the company to clear that hurdle.

"I hope that plant comes here. It will be a big help," said White.

County leaders say most of the companies fund raising efforts are being done in China. Leaders with HK Motors say they are confident they will get the $1.5 billion.
