BAY MINETTE, Ala. - Baldwin County leaders signed a letter of intent Tuesday morning with leaders of HK Motors. That means company leaders can move forward with securing funds for the $1.5 billion project.
During a short presentation, commissioners saw for the first time a virtual tour of the proposed project that will be built next to I-65, in northern Baldwin County.
Company leaders plan to manufacture one million cars by 2018. Leaders say 300,000 units will be rolled off in 2013.
HK Motors leader Chuantao Wang says he has heard motor analysts say the project can not be done.
"We have a goal and we believe that our goal is not too large. It will revolutionize the American automotive industry," Wang said.
This project is a first for HK Motors in the United States. They have a home office in California. However, this will be the company's first manufacturing company.
