MOBILE, Ala. - The intersection of Old Shell Road and McGregor Avenue is undergoing a face lift.

The group known as The Village of Spring Hill has been working to clean up the area by getting sidewalks, new park benches, lighting, and cross walks put in along the street. Business owners are pitching in, too.

Pat Busby and his wife are remodeling a building in the heart of the project area. He hopes the revitalization will bring more traffic to the area, and in turn more customers.

"I think as with most business they live off of customers and traffic is what brings them in, so anything to enhance the community and bring more traffic, more people in is just going to allow business to do what they do best, serve the community," he said.

Busby is a pharmacist. He said the Family Pharmacy of Spring Hill will contribute to the close-knit community feel that the group is aiming for.

Katie Kirby owns her own interior design studio called The Roost Interiors. She said the new sidewalks and the updated look are bringing in business for her.

"My business has grown. I know some of the others have and hopefully that will just spread right on down Old Shell," Kirby said.

Kirby explained the project as the perfect example of the domino effect.

"As you can tell, one business has led to another. One person has put out sidewalk benches, and put out new flowers and a fresh coat of paint. You can see it is already starting to go on down the line, so hopefully we will continue to see progress," she added.

The community raised thousands of dollars to buy a clock that was placed on the corner of the Old Shell Road and McGregor Avenue intersection. The dedication of the clock will be a chance to celebrate the progress, and encourage others to follow the trend of change.
