An exciting program is happening in our area right now. It's the only one of its kind in Alabama and it's goal is to help Veterans. Eagle's Landing is a transitional housing program for homeless veterans. It's a new Volunteers of America program.
When all phases are complete, Eagle's Landing will house 37 veterans. But, the program isn't just putting a roof over their heads, it also offers PTSD and substance abuse counseling, job training -- even a link to job openings in the area. Veterans can live here for up to two years. And, the demand for a spot is high.
"We're getting vets of all ages calling about this program already. I've had a 68 year old vet call looking for a place to live who is recently homeless. I've had a lady from Mississippi call. So, we're hoping to have a big mix of vets," explains Eagle's Landing Program Director Steven Dahmer.
And, here's the really exciting part about all of this: you can help these veterans. Right now, they need of food, hygiene products and cleaning supplies. With your help, they can get these veterans into this housing program just in time for the holidays.
It's easy to do! Just click here for more information on Eagle's Landing. You will also find a list full of other ideas and things you can do to give back and help others this holiday season with our 10 Caring Gifts program.
We're going to be working with the Volunteers of America throughout the holidays. We'll continue to show you what a difference one person, one-group and one good deed can make. We really hope you will get involved!
