Here on the Gulf Coast, we've seen our share of difficult times. And, our friends all over Alabama have also been dealt some challenges. Clean-up continues from the tornado damage in April in many areas, including Tuscaloosa, Birmingham and Cullman. You can help those still in need, and in the event of future storms.
It's all part of Volunteers of America's 10 Caring Gifts. They're called Caring Kits. The kits are filled with all the things you would need in an emergency. Things like toothpaste and tooth brushes, wash cloths and bars of soap, shampoo, combs, band aids, wet wipes and deodorant. The Volunteers of America is filling giant zip-locks with all of these items, and they hand them out in emergencies. As you can tell, it doesn't cost much to create a kit. But, it makes a huge difference.
Paul McLendon with Volunteers of America explains, "because when storms come or emergencies happen, we're displaced. And, many times people have nothing. And, something that would help them resume a little bit of normalcy is very helpful in a time of crisis like that."
The kits are designed to be used for families or individuals displaced because of a fire, a storm or other tragedy.
We're looking for basic supplies, and it's really easy to get on-board and help with these kits. Here's what you do, just click here . That will lead you to information on all of our gifts. They include everything from these Caring Kits to donating toys, school supplies, coats and jackets, even spare change. There are lots of ideas for you and ways you can get involved and help others this holiday season.
We are going to be working with the Volunteers of America throughout the holidays. It's all part of our 10 Caring Gifts program. And, we'll continue to show you what a difference one person, one group and one-good deed can make. We really hope you will get involved!
