Community Enrichment Center

Some very talented young ladies are giving back this holiday season - in a really special way!  The competition team from Debbie's School of Dance took time out from their busy schedules to perform for the folks at Volunteers of America's Community Enrichment Center.  And, that's not all!  The girls, ages six to 18, also did an art supply drive.  They collected tons of arts and crafts materials - markers, glue, glitter, paint - even a sewing machine!  And, the girls say they are happy to do it! 

 "We did that because at Debbie's School of Dance, it's more than just about dance.  It's motivating young people to be the best that they can be.  So, we wanted to give back to the community," explains 18-year-old dancer Lauren Greene.

And, their generosity is making a huge difference.  All of the items will be used by the folks at the Community Enrichment Center.  It is a really special place.  Adults with special needs come daily for classes and activities. 

"The arts and crafts is one of the biggest hits in our program, and we use those throughout the year to do a lot of decorative things," explains Center Director Carla Stallworth.

They actually sell some of the things they make.  The money goes toward their activities.  After Christmas, the next big event is the Mardi Gras parade on February 1st.  Look for some of these supplies to make the decorations and costumes, too.   

And, here's the good news:  you can do what these young dancers are doing!  You can get involved this holiday season and help others.  It's all part of our 10 Caring Gifts program.  Click here for a whole list of ideas and ways you can give back.  Everything from from hands-on activities, like the girls did, to donating your spare change.  You can also help some special children who are separated from their families through no fault of their own.  We're in the middle of our 10 Caring Gifts Toy Drive.  Just drop off new, unwrapped toys at any Trax Tires location .  We'll make sure it gets delivered in time for Christmas!

Thanks to the girls and staff at Debbie's School of Dance for not only brightening spirits for a morning - but, also for weeks to come!  We are going to be working with Volunteers of America throughout the holidays.  We'll continue to show you what a difference one person, one group one good deed can make.  We really hope that you will get involved!
