Pre-schoolers give back

I am about to introduce you to some pretty amazing four year olds!  These pre-schoolers - yes, pre-schoolers - are busy this holiday season helping others. 

Meet the K-4 class at Kingswood Creative Learning Center.  These little students are in the middle of a very special project!  They are making Christmas ornaments for some local senior centers.  Now, these pre-schoolers are only four, but they get what this is all about.  They know where these ornaments are going, and whose Christmas will be that much brighter because of them!  Four year old Jocelyn Black tells us she is excited to put the ornaments "on the tree'.  Classmate Caden Wiggins explains he is "decorating a Christmas tree."  And, four year old Christina Cabell says the decorations are going to "the other grandma's and grandpa's houses."
    
These really are some pretty amazing little four year olds!  Their teacher, Angie McLaney, says this is a great way to help them understand what it means to help others.  "it teaches them not just to think of themselves.  The meaning of a gift is not just in receiving a gift, but in giving a gift.  And, the joy it brings someone else when they receive something you have given them or made for them."
    
That's a joy that we will see a lot of this holiday season.  And, you can help spread it!  This is all part of our 10 Caring Gifts program with Volunteers of America.  It's really easy to get involved and help others this holiday season.  You can do what these four year olds are doing and make something special.  Or, you can go shopping for a special child, help a local veteran or even donate your spare change.  We have lots of ideas for you!  Click here for a list of ideas.
