DAILY DOT COM - Imagine seeing the cool visual effects that dressed the big screen in movies like the Life of Pi on your cell phone. The technology exists and it’s called, The Palm Top Theater.
The device was on display at the 2013 South by Southwest interactive conference in Austin, Texas. It’s a black box that uses several mirrors to project a 3D illusion.
How does it work? Users simply place their iPhone inside the case, with the home button facing forward, and then launch a video, with the case partially closed.
No special glasses needed. The Palm Top Theater works in conjunction with two apps: Palm Top Theater and Palm Top Studio.
The Theater app allows users to browse and purchase additional content, like short movies, games and music videos. Then users can create their own 3D videos with the Studio app. Both are free downloads by the way.
The company has a demo video posted on YouTube. Images displayed with the device appear to really clear; although small. In a blog posted by The Droid Guy , tech geeks also point to the limited amount of content available for viewing. Plus, the case is made completely out of glass. So if it breaks good-bye 3D effects.
The case costs $33.95. Right now it only works for the iPhone 5, 4, and 3Gs models.
