The Consumers Electronics Show continues to light up the already bright streets of Las Vegas. The 2012 CES kicked off Monday and has reportedly attracted about 140,000 tech lovers.
2011 was dubbed by many as the year of the tablet. So, this year's show is featuring lots of ultrabooks, a slimmer and thinner laptop.
Deep-pocketed chipmaker Intel Corp. created the term to push PC makers to make laptops that are more like Apple's Macbook Air. Practically every PC maker is showing off at least one ultrabook at the show.
Hewlett-Packard Co. is talking up its HP Envy 14 Spectre. The model comes with super-fast "solid state" hard drives. It includes a chip that can communicate wirelessly with certain headphones, with an audio quality that's supposedly better than Bluetooth.
The Envy is also covered in scratch-resistant glass but won't be available until February 8 in the U.S. starting at $1,400 and up.
While a lot of attention is being placed on ultra slim laptops, t he Consumer Electronics Association predicts record industry revenue in 2012, driven primarily by smart phone sales.
