DAILY DOT COM - The app allows users to express themselves with photo filters and fonts, and uses a real-time stream. Users can hop on, without having to identify themselves, and share things over other social networks including, Facebook, Twitter, and Tumblr.
Since the app has been released, the average user visits the app ten times a day and spends about an hour or more on it.
It's free to download in the iTunes store. The popularity of the app is rising and so is concern from law enforcement. Deputies in the Florida Keys say the social media application is responsible for several disturbances at a high school.
Two girls got into a fight *and* two boys got into a separate confrontation over negative posts on the application. No arrests were made but administrative sanctions were issued to several students. And now parents are being put on alert.
“Parents should be aware of this particular application and whether their child is using it. The potential for anonymous bullying is concerning to all of us who care about our kids and want them to be healthy and happy, “ said Monroe County Sheriff Rick Ramsay.
Whisper does have a privacy policy with specific language against malicious bigotry and harm to minors. The developers say those found in violation of its policies can have their accounts terminated.
