DAILY DOT COM - According to the Alabama Department of Industrial Relations, unemployment in the state is at 11.1 percent.

Clearly there are a lot of people looking for work, but can you really get a job by using Twitter? The answer is yes, and it’s all thanks to a start-up company in Charlotte, NC, called TweetMyJobs.

TweetMyJobs was founded by Gary Zukowski, a 21-year veteran of corporate America.

The company posts jobs from more than 7,200 companies and maintains more than 8,390 job channels that are specific to a location and job type. That includes some 40 job channels here in Mobile. When an employer posts a job opening, it will be delivered immediately via Twitter to qualified job seekers.

“Employers can post jobs on job channels that specify a particular job type and location, and notification of the job will automatically be sent to a job seekers cell phone as a text message, “ Zukowski said.

Here’s how the site works:

First, a person signs up for a free Twitter account or uses his/her existing Twitter account. Then, the person goes to TweetMyJOBS.com and creates an account there. Once the account is established, TweetMyJobs job seekers subscribe to "job channels" for the cities and job types they have an interest. Instantly, they can begin receiving text messages when positions become available on the job channels they have signed up for.

“With so many people applying for work, most companies just aren’t looking at every resume they receive because they simply don’t have the manpower. The fact that you can get instant notification when a job is posted, and apply by just a few clicks on your phone, may give you the edge on getting that job,” Zukowski adds.

TweetMyJobs recently announced that Sears Holding has chosen its platform to support a new mobile and social media recruitment strategy. And they’ve got other big name companies on board too, including Regions Bank, Motorola, McDonald’s, and Allstate, just to name a few.

Zukowski also said job seekers can also upload their resume to TweetMyJobs and send their profile to potential employers.
