DAILY DOT COM - A Florida tween takes matters into his own hands when his parents ban him from a certain social media site…the birth of GromSocial.com was the result. If you have an 8-12 year old in your house perhaps you’ve heard of it.
GromSocial is described as a younger, more kid-friendly social media website. Users can chat, share pictures and events, and make new friends on the social media site. Many people compare it to Facebook.
According to the Grom social story, the then 11-year-old, Zach Marks wanted a safe place to chat with his buddies that was “cool” and had “sick graphics.”
GromSocial puts heavy focus on current issues facing youth including, bullying, anti-smoking and drug use. The site has filters in place to keep out inappropriate language. Adults are not allowed to join unless they are friends or family, but parents have to Ok their kids signing up in order to receive emails of all of their postings and correspondence on the site.
Grom, in case you were wondering, is a promising young individual, who is quick to learn. On the website you'll find postings about surfing, health and fitness, and sports pictures. There are also stories about role models like RG3, Robert Lee Griffin, and Tim Tebow. A filter keeps out any inappropriate language.
The GromSocial app is a free download in the iTunes App store and for Android devices. The site has about 7,000 users. It’s also received an “A” rating from the Electronic Trust Foundation.
